IL1R2 (Interleukin-1 Receptor Type 2; IL-1RT2) — Decoy receptor of the interleukin-1 receptor family that binds IL-1α and IL-1β but lacks effective intracellular signaling capacity. IL1R2 therefore suppresses IL-1-mediated inflammatory signaling by sequestering IL-1 ligands and limiting activation of the signaling receptor IL1R1. Both membrane-bound and soluble IL1R2 forms occur.

Typical modulation in cancer: Context-dependent. ↑ IL1R2 can suppress IL-1-driven inflammatory signaling, but elevated IL1R2 expression has also been associated with tumor-supportive immune environments and poor prognosis in some cancers. The direction should therefore be interpreted by tumor type and immune context rather than treated as universally protective.

Typical modulation in Alzheimer’s disease: ↑ IL1R2 would generally be expected to reduce IL-1-mediated neuroinflammatory signaling by acting as a decoy receptor. However, disease-associated changes may also represent a compensatory anti-inflammatory response, so elevated IL1R2 should not automatically be interpreted as reduced disease activity.
