| SCP2 - Sterol Carrier Protein 2 Abbreviation: SCP2, SCP-2, NSL-TP Type: Intracellular lipid-transfer protein / sterol carrier protein Function: SCP2 is a small intracellular lipid-binding and transfer protein that participates in trafficking of cholesterol, fatty acids, phospholipids, and other lipids between cellular membranes and organelles. It is particularly associated with peroxisomal and mitochondrial lipid metabolism and contributes to cholesterol homeostasis, fatty-acid oxidation, membrane composition, and cellular lipid signaling. Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. Increased SCP2 can promote cholesterol trafficking, lipid metabolic reprogramming, AKT-associated survival signaling, angiogenesis, proliferation, and tumor progression in several cancers. However, SCP2 can also exert tumor-suppressive effects in selected cancers, including colon adenocarcinoma, where increased SCP2 has been associated with reduced proliferation and migration, increased apoptosis, and greater ferroptosis sensitivity. |
