IGF2BP3 - Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 mRNA-Binding Protein 3

Abbreviation: IGF2BP3, IMP3

Alternative Names: IMP3, KOC, KOC1, CT98, VICKZ3

Type: RNA-binding protein / m6A reader / post-transcriptional regulator

Function: IGF2BP3 binds and regulates selected mRNAs and other RNAs, including m6A-modified transcripts, influencing RNA stability, localization and translation. It is highly expressed during embryonic development, is low or absent in most normal adult tissues, and is frequently re-expressed in cancer.

Cancer: ↑ IGF2BP3 is frequently overexpressed in human cancers and generally promotes tumor-cell proliferation, survival, migration, invasion, metastasis, altered metabolism, chemotherapy resistance and immune evasion. High IGF2BP3 expression is commonly associated with aggressive disease and poor prognosis.

Favorable Direction in Cancer: ↓ IGF2BP3 expression or activity is generally favorable where IGF2BP3 functions as an oncogenic RNA-binding protein.
