| LATS1 - Large Tumor Suppressor Kinase 1 Type: Serine/threonine protein kinase / Hippo pathway tumor suppressor Function: Core kinase of the Hippo signaling pathway that phosphorylates and inhibits the transcriptional co-activators YAP and TAZ, promoting their cytoplasmic retention and degradation. LATS1 regulates cell proliferation, apoptosis, cell-cycle progression, tissue growth, contact inhibition, and genome stability. Cancer: ↓ Frequently reduced, inhibited, or functionally inactivated in cancer. Loss of LATS1 activity permits increased YAP/TAZ transcriptional activity, promoting proliferation, survival, invasion, stemness, metastasis, and tumor progression. Restoration or activation of LATS1 generally suppresses oncogenic YAP/TAZ signaling. |
