LIFR - Leukemia Inhibitory Factor Receptor

Abbreviation: LIFR, CD118

Type: Cytokine receptor / gp130-family receptor

Function: Cell-surface cytokine receptor that forms signaling complexes with gp130 (IL6ST) and responds to leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and related cytokines. LIFR signaling activates pathways including JAK/STAT3, MAPK/ERK, PI3K/AKT, and mTOR and regulates cell survival, differentiation, proliferation, stemness, inflammation, and tissue remodeling.

Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. Increased LIF/LIFR signaling is oncogenic in many solid tumors and can promote proliferation, survival, cancer stem-cell properties, invasion, metastasis, immune suppression, and resistance to therapy. However, LIFR can function as a metastasis suppressor in selected cancers, making its effect dependent on tumor type and signaling context.
