ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 2 (ABCC2; protein name multidrug resistance-associated protein 2, MRP2; also called cMOAT) is an ATP-dependent membrane efflux transporter. It exports organic anions, glutathione, glucuronide and sulfate conjugates, bilirubin conjugates, and several therapeutic drugs from cells. In cancer, ABCC2/MRP2 ↑ is commonly associated with increased drug efflux, reduced intracellular drug accumulation, and chemotherapy resistance. Conversely, ABCC2/MRP2 ↓ or transporter inhibition generally increases intracellular drug exposure and may restore treatment sensitivity.
