| miR-223-3p - MicroRNA-223-3p Function: Regulatory microRNA with important roles in inflammation, myeloid and microglial function, cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and immune signaling. Targets include pathways involving NLRP3, STAT3, FOXO proteins, and other regulators of inflammatory and cancer signaling. Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. miR-223-3p can function as a tumor suppressor in cancers such as hepatocellular and lung cancer, inhibiting proliferation and promoting apoptosis, but can act oncogenically in other cancers including renal-cell and breast cancer by promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis. Alzheimer's Disease: ↕ Dysregulated. Circulating miR-223 has been reported decreased in AD patients, while increased miR-223-3p activity within microglia can promote inflammatory metabolic reprogramming and M1-like activation. Direction therefore depends on biological compartment and disease context. |
