| MTA1 - Metastasis Associated 1 Type: Chromatin-remodeling protein / transcriptional coregulator / NuRD complex component Function: MTA1 is a transcriptional coregulator and component of the nucleosome remodeling and deacetylase (NuRD) complex. It regulates chromatin structure, histone deacetylation, gene expression, DNA-damage responses, cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, angiogenesis, invasion, and metastatic behavior. Cancer: ↑ Frequently overexpressed and oncogenic in multiple cancers. Elevated MTA1 promotes proliferation, EMT, migration, invasion, angiogenesis, cancer stem-cell properties, and metastasis and is frequently associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis. MTA1 can alter signaling through pathways involving HDACs, p53, HIF-1α, Wnt/β-catenin, NF-κB, MYC, and hormone receptors. |
