Type:

IP6K1 - Inositol Hexakisphosphate Kinase 1

Abbreviation: IP6K1

Type: Inositol phosphate kinase / inositol pyrophosphate synthesis enzyme

Function: IP6K1 phosphorylates inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6) to generate 5-diphosphoinositol pentakisphosphate (5-IP7), a high-energy inositol pyrophosphate signaling molecule. IP6K1 regulates cellular metabolism, cytoskeletal remodeling, migration, vesicular trafficking, gene expression, chromatin regulation, DNA repair, and immune-cell function.

Cancer: ↑ Increased or active IP6K1 signaling can promote cancer-cell migration, invasion, and tumor progression through 5-IP7-dependent regulation of cytoskeletal and focal-adhesion signaling. IP6K1 depletion reduces migration and invasion in experimental cancer models, while genetic loss of IP6K1 can protect against chemically induced carcinogenesis and invasive tumor progression.
