Function: IL1RL1 encodes ST2, the principal receptor for IL-33. Membrane-bound ST2L forms a signaling receptor complex with IL1RAP and transduces IL-33-dependent inflammatory and immune signals. A soluble isoform, sST2, lacks the signaling domain and functions as a decoy receptor that binds extracellular IL-33 and limits IL-33/ST2L signaling.

Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. ST2-mediated IL-33 signaling can support either tumor-promoting or antitumor immune responses depending on cancer type, immune-cell composition, receptor isoform, and tumor microenvironment.
