CCL11 - C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 11 / Eotaxin-1

Abbreviation: CCL11, Eotaxin-1, SCYA11

Type: CC chemokine / eosinophil chemoattractant

Function: CCL11 is a chemokine that signals primarily through CCR3 and promotes recruitment and activation of eosinophils. It is produced by epithelial cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, macrophages, and other cell types in response to inflammatory and type-2 cytokine signaling, including IL-4 and IL-13.

Asthma: ↑ Increased CCL11 is associated with allergic and eosinophilic asthma. Elevated CCL11 promotes CCR3-dependent eosinophil recruitment and activation in the airways and contributes to airway inflammation, mucus hypersecretion, airway hyperresponsiveness, and tissue remodeling.

Favorable Direction in Asthma:CCL11 expression or signaling is generally favorable because it reduces eosinophil recruitment and allergic airway inflammation.
