Function: LTB4 is a potent inflammatory lipid mediator derived from arachidonic acid. It signals primarily through BLT1/LTB4R and BLT2/LTB4R2 and strongly promotes chemotaxis, recruitment, adhesion, and activation of neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, eosinophils, and other leukocytes.

Asthma: ↑ Increased LTB4 contributes to airway inflammation by recruiting and activating inflammatory leukocytes. It is particularly relevant to neutrophilic and severe asthma phenotypes and can contribute to airway hyperresponsiveness and persistent inflammation.

Favorable Direction in Asthma:LTB4 production or signaling generally indicates reduced inflammatory leukocyte recruitment and airway inflammation.

Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. LTB4/BLT signaling can promote inflammatory tumor growth, angiogenesis, migration, and metastasis in some settings, but BLT1-dependent recruitment of cytotoxic T cells can also support antitumor immunity.
