Type: protein
TIM-3 is a protein that plays a crucial role in the regulation of the immune system. It is expressed on the surface of certain immune cells, including T cells and macrophages.

TIM-3 has been identified as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target. TIM-3 is often overexpressed on the surface of tumor-infiltrating T cells and other immune cells in various types of cancer, including melanoma, lung cancer, and breast cancer.

The overexpression of TIM-3 on immune cells in the tumor microenvironment can contribute to immune suppression and tumor progression. TIM-3 can bind to its ligand, galectin-9, which is expressed on the surface of tumor cells. This binding can lead to the inhibition of T-cell function and the promotion of T-cell exhaustion, allowing the tumor to evade immune surveillance.
