| Synergy — Interaction in which two or more agents, treatments, or biological interventions produce a combined effect greater than would be expected from their individual effects. In pharmacology and cancer research, synergy commonly refers to enhanced therapeutic efficacy when a compound is combined with chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, or another bioactive agent. Typical modulation in cancer: ↑ synergy is generally favorable when it increases tumor-cell killing, suppresses proliferation, enhances apoptosis or ferroptosis, or improves sensitivity to anticancer therapy. Synergy should be distinguished from simple additive effects and ideally supported by quantitative combination analysis such as combination index, Bliss independence, Loewe additivity, or related methods. Typical modulation in Alzheimer’s disease: Context-dependent. Synergy may describe enhanced neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, or cognitive effects produced by combinations of compounds or treatments, but it is not a disease-specific molecular pathway. |
