| LIM domain kinase 1 (LIMK1) is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates actin-cytoskeleton dynamics primarily by phosphorylating and inactivating cofilin. LIMK1 acts downstream of Rho-family GTPases and kinases including ROCK and PAK. In many cancers, LIMK1 expression or activity ↑ promotes actin polymerization, cell migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and metastatic progression. Conversely, LIMK1 inhibition or activity ↓ commonly reduces cancer-cell motility and invasion. Gene reference. |
