Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor
(GLP-1R; gene symbol GLP1R) is a
seven-transmembrane G-protein-coupled receptor activated by
glucagon-like peptide-1. GLP-1R signalling commonly activates adenylate
cyclase, increases intracellular cAMP, and regulates
downstream PKA and EPAC pathways. Physiologically, it contributes to
glucose-dependent insulin secretion, appetite regulation, gastric emptying,
and energy metabolism. In cancer, GLP-1R expression and signalling are
context-dependent. GLP-1R activation may inhibit
proliferation, increase apoptosis, or improve the metabolic environment in
selected tumour models, but proliferative or survival-promoting effects have
also been reported in certain receptor-expressing tissues and cancers.
