| URGCP - Upregulator of Cell Proliferation Abbreviation: URGCP, URG4 Type: Oncogenic cell-proliferation regulatory protein Function: URGCP/URG4 is a cell-proliferation regulator originally identified as a gene induced by hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx). It promotes cell-cycle progression, proliferation, survival, and tumorigenic signaling and can regulate pathways involving AKT, FOXO3a, GSK3β/β-catenin, cyclin D1, p21/CDKN1A, and p27/CDKN1B. Cancer: ↑ Frequently increased and oncogenic. Elevated URGCP/URG4 promotes G1/S cell-cycle progression, proliferation, survival, migration, tumor growth, and metastatic behavior. In hepatocellular carcinoma, increased URGCP is associated with advanced disease and poor survival and can increase AKT and cyclin D1 while suppressing FOXO3a, p21, and p27 activity. |
