Function: miR-23a-3p is a mature microRNA belonging to the miR-23/27/24 cluster. It regulates gene expression by binding target mRNAs and promoting transcript degradation or translational repression. It influences proliferation, apoptosis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, migration, invasion, inflammation, and intracellular signaling pathways including PTEN/AKT and MAPK/ERK.

Cancer: ↑ Predominantly oncogenic in many cancer models. Increased miR-23a-3p can promote proliferation, survival, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, metastasis, and treatment resistance by suppressing tumor-suppressive targets including PTEN, NDRG4, DUSP5, and RKIP/PEBP1. Tumor- and stromal-derived exosomal miR-23a-3p can also promote malignant signaling within the tumor microenvironment.
