IgG1 - Immunoglobulin G1

Abbreviation: IgG1

Type: Immunoglobulin subclass / humoral immune biomarker

Function: IgG1 is an immunoglobulin G subclass involved in antigen recognition, immune-complex formation, Fc gamma receptor signaling, complement-related immune responses, and adaptive immunity. Its functional role differs substantially between species and experimental contexts.

Asthma: ↑ In mouse allergic asthma models, increased allergen-specific IgG1 commonly reflects enhanced Th2/type-2 sensitization and is frequently measured alongside IgE as a marker of allergic immune activation. IgG1-containing immune complexes can activate Fcγ receptor-expressing inflammatory cells and contribute to allergic airway responses.

Context: IgG1 can also be protective during allergen immunotherapy. Immunotherapy-induced mouse IgG1 can inhibit ILC2 expansion and eosinophilic airway inflammation through FcγRIIb-mediated inhibitory signaling. Mouse IgG1 in this setting is considered functionally analogous in part to protective human IgG4.

Typical Asthma Study Direction: ↑ Allergen-specific IgG1 generally indicates stronger Th2 sensitization in untreated mouse asthma models; ↓ is commonly interpreted as suppression of the allergic response. This interpretation should not be applied automatically to allergen-immunotherapy studies.
