It interacts with AKT and can modulate AKT phosphorylation and signaling, mitochondrial function, apoptosis, metabolism, and stress responses. Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. CTMP was originally characterized as an inhibitor of AKT activation and has shown tumor-suppressive and pro-apoptotic effects in lung, pancreatic, and glioblastoma models. However, in other cancers such as head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma, CTMP expression is increased and promotes AKT phosphorylation, proliferation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, metastasis, and treatment resistance. Favorable Direction in Cancer: Context-dependent. ↑ CTMP can be favorable where it inhibits AKT and promotes apoptosis, whereas ↓ CTMP may be favorable in tumors where it functions as an oncogenic AKT activator.
