| TBXAS1 - Thromboxane A Synthase 1 Abbreviation: TBXAS1, TxAS, TXAS, TXA2S, CYP5A1 Type: Cytochrome P450-family enzyme / eicosanoid biosynthesis enzyme / thromboxane synthase Function: TBXAS1 catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to thromboxane A2 (TXA2), a short-lived bioactive eicosanoid that promotes platelet activation, vasoconstriction, cell signaling, and inflammatory responses. Cancer: ↑ TBXAS1 expression and thromboxane synthesis are increased in several cancers and can promote tumor-cell proliferation, migration, invasion, angiogenesis, metastasis, and tumor-microenvironment signaling. Favorable Direction in Cancer: ↓ TBXAS1 expression or activity is generally favorable where thromboxane signaling contributes to tumor progression. Pathway Relationship: Arachidonic Acid → COX-1/COX-2 → PGH2 → TBXAS1 ↑ → TXA2 ↑ → TBXA2R/TP signaling ↑. Interpretation Note: TBXAS1/TxAS is the enzyme that synthesizes TXA2 and should be kept separate from TXA2 itself and from its receptor TBXA2R/TP. |
