| ANAPC2 - Anaphase Promoting Complex Subunit 2 Abbreviation: ANAPC2, APC2 Type: APC/C E3 ubiquitin ligase complex subunit / cell-cycle regulator Function: ANAPC2 is a core component of the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), a multi-subunit E3 ubiquitin ligase that controls progression through mitosis and G1 by targeting cell-cycle proteins such as securin and cyclin B for ubiquitin-dependent proteasomal degradation. Cancer: ↕ Context-dependent. Proper ANAPC2/APC-C activity is required for accurate chromosome segregation and genomic stability. Disruption of APC/C function can promote chromosomal instability and tumorigenesis, but ANAPC2 expression itself is not consistently oncogenic and higher expression has been associated with favorable prognosis in several cancer types. Favorable Direction in Cancer: Context-dependent. Preservation of normal APC/C function is generally favorable for genomic stability, whereas either excessive or defective APC/C signaling can alter mitotic control depending on tumor context. Interpretation Note: ANAPC2 should be distinguished from APC/C regulators such as CDC20, CDH1/FZR1, and FBXO5/EMI1. Changes in APC/C activity cannot always be inferred from ANAPC2 expression alone. |
