| Undifferentiated Embryonic Cell Transcription Factor 1 (UTF1) — Nuclear transcriptional/chromatin regulator associated with embryonic stem-cell pluripotency, self-renewal, differentiation, and control of cell-cycle-associated gene expression. UTF1 expression is strongly linked to an undifferentiated cellular state and may also contribute to cancer stem-cell biology. Typical modulation in Alzheimer’s disease: Insufficient evidence for a consistent disease-associated direction. UTF1 is not currently a well-established Alzheimer’s disease target. Typical modulation in cancer: ↔ / context-dependent. UTF1 may function as either a tumor-promoting stemness factor or a tumor suppressor depending on cancer type and cellular context. Reduced UTF1 has been reported in breast cancer and associated with larger tumors and lymph-node metastasis, while UTF1 expression in other malignancies may be associated with an undifferentiated or stem-like phenotype. Avoid assigning a universal ↑ or ↓ cancer direction. Recommended abbreviation: UTF1; gene/protein designation: UTF1. |
