| TBIL (Total Bilirubin) — Total concentration of bilirubin in blood, consisting primarily of direct (conjugated) and indirect (unconjugated) bilirubin. TBIL is commonly used as a clinical biomarker of hepatic function, bilirubin metabolism, hemolysis, and biliary obstruction. Typical modulation in disease: ↑ TBIL may indicate impaired bilirubin clearance, hepatocellular injury, cholestasis, biliary obstruction, or increased red blood cell breakdown. Interpretation depends strongly on the relative direct and indirect fractions. |
