| WFDC10A (WAP Four-Disulfide Core Domain 10A; WAP10) — Secreted/extracellular WAP-domain protein with predicted serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity. WFDC10A is associated with innate immune and antibacterial humoral responses and may regulate extracellular protease activity.
Typical modulation in cancer: Emerging and context-dependent. WFDC10A has been proposed as a tumor-suppressor-associated gene in recent cancer studies. In MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells, mebendazole markedly increased WFDC10A expression, suggesting that ↑ WFDC10A may accompany an anticancer transcriptional response. However, the cancer literature remains limited, so a universal direction should not yet be assigned.
