| ITGA2 (Integrin Subunit Alpha 2; CD49B) — Cell-surface adhesion receptor subunit that heterodimerizes with ITGB1 to form integrin α2β1, a major receptor for collagen and related extracellular-matrix proteins. ITGA2 regulates cell-matrix adhesion, focal adhesion formation, migration, invasion, mechanotransduction, and extracellular-matrix signaling. Typical modulation in cancer: Frequently ↑ and tumor-promoting in several cancers. Elevated ITGA2 can promote adhesion to collagen-rich extracellular matrix, migration, invasion, EMT, metastatic dissemination, and survival signaling. Increased ITGA2 has been associated with metastasis and recurrence in breast, lung, glioma, thyroid, pancreatic, and other cancers, although effects remain context-dependent. Typical mechanistic relationship: Collagen → ITGA2/ITGB1 (α2β1 integrin) → focal adhesion / FAK-SRC signaling → migration and invasion ↑. |
