Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent stromal cells that can differentiate into various cell types (e.g., osteoblasts, adipocytes, chondrocytes).
MSCs are of interest because—beyond their role in tissue repair and immunomodulation—they are implicated in the tumor microenvironment. MSCs can interact with cancer cells, and there is evidence that they can influence tumor growth, metastasis, and drug resistance.
