TLR1 is one of the Toll-like receptors (TLRs), a family of pattern recognition receptors that play a critical role in the innate immune system by recognizing pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs).
TLR1 expression is not confined solely to immune cells; its expression has also been detected in various tumor cells as well as in the surrounding stroma. Aberrant expression or activation of TLR1 in the tumor microenvironment can influence both innate and adaptive immune responses within tumors. This modulation can have complex effects on tumor progression.
Due to its dual role, TLR1 holds potential as both a prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target.
