miR-99 (mainly miR-99a, miR-99b, and miR-100, often collectively referred to as the miR-99 family) is generally a tumor-suppressor microRNA involved in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, DNA repair, and mTOR/AKT signaling. Loss or downregulation of miR-99 family members is observed in multiple cancers, and restoring them can inhibit tumor growth and metastasis.
-In Cancer: often downregulated
Biomarker: Low miR-99 predicts aggressive phenotype, metastasis, and poor survival
