The GP1BB gene, also known as the glycoprotein Ib beta subunit gene, is a gene that encodes a protein subunit of the glycoprotein Ib-IX-V complex. This complex is a receptor for von Willebrand factor (VWF) and plays a crucial role in the process of platelet adhesion and activation.
GP1BB is overexpressed in certain types of cancer, including breast, lung, and colon cancer. This overexpression was associated with increased tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, suggesting that GP1BB may contribute to the aggressive behavior of cancer cells.
